Petunia the Purple Piggy Bank (Paperback) by Mary Beacham Hall

$10.99

Petunia is a personified piggy bank, belonging to Miss Price's 4th grade class. Petunia loves her usual stomping ground but after a while she decides to take a trip around the school. Come with her on an unexpected adventure!

This book is a lighthearted adventure story for children written by a child. The story and pictures of Petunia the Purple Piggy Bank were created as a “Make a Book” class assignment when Mary BeachamHall was in 4th Grade. Mary held onto the original pages with the intent of making it into a published storybook “someday”. Someday arrived 52 years later, after her own children were grown and off on their own. Some of the original pages from 1968 are included in the back of the book.

Ideas and inspirations for a story can come from many places. Petunia the purple piggy bank actually does exist and is the inspiration for Mary’s childhood story. Mary’s older sister had gone away to college when Mary was in the 4th grade. From the college apparel and accessory store, her sister purchased a piggy bank to give to Mary. It was made of her sister's college colors, purple and gold. This piggy bank, which Mary loved because it reminded her of the sister she missed, became the character for the 4th grade “ Make a book” class assignment.

Mary wanted to honor the 9 year child who originally created this story. The story is the original one invented and drawn so many years ago. She wanted to show what is possible and that children don’t have to wait to be grown up to make something they dream of creating! After your child reads this story, they can draw inspiration to craft their own! See where it takes them!
